Happy and Welcome 2022

Happy and Welcome 2022! And My Many Thanks…so far...

I have a hard time believing that only one year has passed since I excitedly received my first vaccination…feels like a lot longer. Roger and I felt so liberated with that first shot after no 2020 Xmas and not seeing our family and friends for so long. While 2021 didn’t turn out to be the death of COVID as we had hoped, I still felt safer with my 2 shots and a booster, so...

My first thanks goes to medical science!

This year, we had plans for a family trip to Cabo San Lucas… but given Omicron, we instead celebrated the holidays with our two daughters and their families in Dallas (Dana’s home) where the weather was unseasonably warm… great for many outdoor activities. We had the perfect COVID holiday... the days were filled with pickle ball, top golf, touring the beautiful Audubon gardens, family photo shoot in the park, and walking Maddy (the family dog). Our evenings were filled with ping pong tournaments, charades, movies, and poker…never got to the books I planned to read. Dana then hosted a Chinese cooking class for the kids to make fried wontons! Every meal was a feast with take out from the best in the neighborhood that would prepare for 10! The only indoor activity was the gals’ shopping day… we couldn’t resist buying! We had no plane cancellations and arrived home intact with wonderful memories.

My 2nd thanks is to you for reading my holiday memories

Today, January 6th, is my 41st anniversary working at Raymond James!! I would like to quote an actress we will all miss:

“Why retire from something if you're loving it so much and enjoying it so much, and you're blessed with another group of people to work with…. Why would I think of retiring? What would I do with myself?”

To whom I give my 3rd thanks for remaining relevant to the end

And later this year I will be celebrating my 60th wedding anniversary.

My 4th thanks is for being so lucky that Raymond James and Roger endured and survived me!

No doubt our world will not be the same after 2+ years of COVID. With this in mind, I highly recommend the book “Think Again” by Adam Grant. Grant contends that in a fast-changing world, people must have the ability to relearn and unlearn. The brighter we are, the harder this may be. Still, we are all well-served by letting go of views that no longer serve us well. I’m reading “Think Again” for the 2nd time.

The stock market was quite generous to most in 2021. For those of you still working, I hope you participated fully in your 401k plans. In general, the market prognosticators are cautiously optimistic, though, like always, a few expect a correction in 2022.

Feb 1, 2022 marks the beginning of the Chinese New Year of the Tiger. My next Musings will include the prognostications for wealth and health in the Tiger year.

Please feel free to share your holidays experience via a reply e-mail. All of us at the Starner Group would love to hear how you spent your holidays.

Sincerely,

Margaret C. Starner

Barron’s is a registered trademark of Dow Jones & Company, L.P. All rights reserved. "Barron's Hall of Fame" is an award honoring a group of advisors who exemplify long-term success and commitment to their clients. Each member of the Hall of Fame has appeared in 10 or more of Barron's annual Top 100 Advisor rankings, and their long-looking commitment to excellence is a hopeful example for the industry to follow. The Top 100 Advisor rankings are based on data provided by individual advisors and their firms and include qualitative and quantitative criteria. Data points that relate to quality of practice include professionals with a minimum of 7 years financial services experience, acceptable compliance records (no criminal U4 issues), client retention reports, charitable and philanthropic work, quality of practice, designations held, offering services beyond investments offered including estates and trusts, and more. Financial Advisors are quantitatively rated based on varying types of revenues produced and assets under management by the financial professional, with weightings associated for each. Investment performance is not an explicit component because not all advisors have audited results and because performance figures often are influenced more by clients’ risk tolerance than by an advisor’s investment picking abilities. The ranking may not be representative of any one client’s experience, is not an endorsement, and is not indicative of advisor’s future performance. Neither Raymond James nor any of its Financial Advisors pay a fee in exchange for this award/rating. Barron’s is not affiliated with Raymond James.
