Daniel joined the Starner Group as an intern in 2015 without any previous knowledge around the field of financial planning. Ironically, he dropped his finance major at the University of Miami after the introductory corporate finance course. During his internship with the Starner Group, the intersection of behavioral psychology, personal finance, and macroeconomics drew Daniel into the field, and he accepted a full-time position with the Starner Group in April of 2016.
As the only child of divorced parents and a first-generation college graduate, Daniel had firsthand experience in facilitating communication and planning around his family’s finances from a very young age. In his early days with the Starner Group, Daniel learned how small changes in financial habits and behavioral nudges by a trusted advisor can materially impact one’s financial wellbeing. He leveraged this lesson in his personal life by helping structure his parents’ financial lives, including creating a plan for his mom to tackle her perpetual credit card debt.
He quickly earned his Series 7 and 66 licenses and became a Certified Investment Management Analyst® in 2018 in order to better support the investment planning aspects of the practice. As his tenure grew and he continued to see the positive impact of holistic financial planning on clients’ lives, Daniel knew he wanted to become a financial advisor. The next step he conquered on this path was earning the Certified Financial Planner® professional certification in 2023.
Daniel’s passion goes beyond providing a formulaic approach to financial planning. He thoroughly enjoys understanding the biases, heuristics and intrinsic motivators that drive clients’ goals and their pursuit of them. He leverages this understanding to help clients better define their own goals and develop custom strategies designed to avoid potential self-inflicted pitfalls.
As a senior investment portfolio analyst and Certified Financial Planner® professional, Daniel supports the practice and its clients primarily through investment research and due diligence, and portfolio construction and maintenance. While he works with all clients of the Starner Group, Daniel is particularly focused on advising the second and third generation clients of the practice.
Before starting his career in financial services, Daniel spent eight years as a cheerleader, and after graduating from the University of Miami, came back to coach the cheerleading team for several years. A music lover, he also worked at the university’s radio station while pursuing his degree.
A Miami native, Daniel is an avid traveler, whether he’s visiting family in Brazil or spending time in London, a city he fell in love with while studying abroad. He is fluent in English, Portuguese, and Spanish.
He stays active – he’s a dedicated CrossFit® athlete – and is a licensed pilot, voracious reader and lifelong learner. Whether it’s earning professional certifications like the CFP®, obtaining his pilot’s license or devouring books to broaden his knowledge of economics and finance, he is continuously learning and growing.
Daniel is an Eagle Scout and member of the executive board of SAVE, South Florida’s longest-serving nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the LGBTQ+ community. In 2023, he proudly spearheaded the effort for Raymond James to sponsor Miami Beach Pride, the first event of its kind outside of Raymond James home offices, which has now become an annual event.
He has an Italian Greyhound named Ginger.
